Shickers Tavern

Saturday 24th January saw us finally roll into Shickers Tavern and from the moment we walked through the door, it felt like one of those rare venues that just gets it. Often described as a micro-bar, Shickers might be small in physical size, but what it lacks in square footage it more than makes up for in attitude, character and atmosphere. This place punches well above its weight.

There’s something immediately welcoming about Shickers. The artwork on the walls tells its own story before a single note is played. A venue steeped in music, creativity and the kind of lived-in authenticity you can’t manufacture. You don’t feel like you’re playing at the bar; you feel like you’re part of it. That sense of history and passion sets the tone perfectly for a night of live music.

JBB often talks about venues that fit us like a pair of well-worn socks, comfortable, familiar and completely right and Shickers Tavern is exactly that. From the first song, the room was alive. The atmosphere was electric, charged with genuine attention and engagement. Every glance, every reaction, every cheer felt earned and shared. It wasn’t just a crowd watching a band; it was a room full of people actively involved in the experience.

The intimacy of the space only amplified that connection. There’s nowhere to hide in a venue like this and that’s a good thing. The energy bounces straight back at you, feeding the performance and pushing it higher. We found ourselves playing harder, digging deeper and enjoying every second of it. Time moved far too quickly, always the sign of a great gig.

By the end of the night, it was impossible not to feel grateful. Grateful for venues like Shickers Tavern that champion live music, grateful for audiences that show up with open ears and open hearts and grateful for nights that remind you why you do this in the first place.

We loved every minute of our time at Shickers Tavern and it’s a real pleasure to say we’ll be heading back later in the year. If you care about music, atmosphere and places with soul, this is a venue you need to experience.
