Back to the White Bear – A Home from Home
Another weekend rolled around and it was time once again to load up the gear and head out for another gig. This time we were back at the White Bear in Adlington, a venue that has always been a particularly enjoyable one for the band. Over the years it’s become something of a home-from-home for us, with a welcoming crowd, plenty of familiar faces and an atmosphere that always seems ready for a good night of music.
This particular gig was going to be a little different from the usual White Bear outings but we’ll come to that shortly.
First of all, it was great to have Paul back in his regular spot on the drums, which meant we had a full house of musicians once again. There’s always a certain energy when everyone is back in their usual positions and it didn’t take long for that to show. From the very beginning of the night the dance floor was already filling up with people swinging their hips and moving along to the rhythm of our first set.
Now, I mentioned earlier that this gig would be a little different and there were two main reasons for that.
The first was that the landlord, a long-time supporter and fan of the band was away enjoying a well-earned break. While we certainly missed seeing him there, it did mean there was one less person for Chris to pick on during the evening, which is usually part of the entertainment whenever we play the White Bear.
The second difference was perhaps even bigger news, at least in guitar terms. Andy Burr arrived armed with yet another new guitar. Anyone who knows Andy will know that new guitars are not exactly unheard of, but this one came with a bit of a twist. This time he was playing a British-made guitar, which in itself was quite a talking point. Even more interesting was the fact that Andy has been asked to endorse the brand making the instrument’s debut at the White Bear a bit of a special occasion.
Naturally the guitar sounded great throughout the night and added its own flavour to the set.
As the evening went on, the usual White Bear magic kicked in and there was plenty of the usual mix of music, laughter and the occasional fun fact thrown into the mix along the way.
By the end of the night it was clear that, once again the White Bear had delivered exactly what it always does, a great crowd, a great atmosphere and another memorable night for the band.
