Saturday Night at The Washington
Saturday night saw us return to our home-from-home The Washington. This was our second gig of the weekend. There’s something special about playing this venue it’s where we feel most connected with our community and the energy of the crowd always pushes us to give that little bit extra.
Now, you couldn’t miss the fact that The Washington is in the middle of a makeover. Scaffolding wrapped around the outside gave the pub the look of a work-in-progress, but once you stepped through those doors the transformation was forgotten. Inside it was business as usual. Good people, good atmosphere and a room buzzing with anticipation for live music.
The night began a little quieter than expected for a Saturday but that’s the magic of gigs you never know when the switch will flip. Sure enough, the momentum built as the evening wore on. Regulars drifted in, new faces joined the crowd and the energy in the room began to grow.
One of the highlights came when a group of lads from the USA wandered in. They didn’t just add to the numbers they brought a wave of enthusiasm that spread across the pub. Every song, every riff, every chorus seemed to fuel their excitement. Their shouts, claps and sheer joy became infectious, pulling the rest of the audience into a shared moment that only live music can create. To say they enjoyed themselves would be an understatement. It felt like they’d come halfway across the world just to be part of our night.
Of course, every memorable gig has its unpredictable moments and this one didn’t disappoint. Enter one fearless lady with a flair for provocative dancing. She commanded the floor with a style and confidence that turned heads and set tongues wagging. It was one of those unexpected bursts of energy that no setlist or plan can deliver. But one that becomes part of the night’s story, between the Americans’ raw enthusiasm and her bold moves The Washington was transformed into a party atmosphere that felt bigger than the four walls could contain.
For us as a band, these are the nights that remind us why we do what we do. The Washington is undergoing change, but the spirit of the place remains unshaken. The scaffolding outside may say “work in progress,” but inside it’s clear that live music keeps the heart of the pub beating. We brought the energy but it was the crowd both familiar and unexpected that turned a Saturday night into something unforgettable.
So here’s to The Washington, to the regulars who always show up, to the surprise visitors who make the night unique and to the wild cards who remind us that gigs are never just about music, they’re about moments. And this Saturday night gave us plenty of those.
